Terenchin opened in April 2010 as a resource for interior designers, collectors, artists, but primarily for those who are a bit of all three. The focus is on 20th century painting, drawing and printmaking selected from private collections and estates. In addition, Terenchin offers both antique and contemporary pieces, but the gallery represents no one. There’s no program or schedule: the collection evolves on a daily basis. Content is determined by availability of resources, and the following beliefs:

A strong piece evokes a narrative. It can conjure a setting, a story, and resurrect the spirit of a historical moment.

Relevance. Meanings change, but time’s passage has only made the object in question somehow more complicated and interesting.

Art is an assertion. It can be an invitation, argument, seduction or a hybrid variety. Whatever the mode, it has to be confident and persuasive.

Audiences require a point of view they can trust. Put another way: we avoid stories told by an unreliable narrator. No one likes to be taken for a ride.
