Nadia Petrova Léger (1904-1982): Nature Morte, 1952. Gouache on paper, signed ‘N. Petrova Leger’ lower right, signed, titled, dated and inscribed ‘Paris’ on the reverse. Custom gilt frame. 11 x 15 in. (sheet), 23 1/2 x 28 in. (frame).

Note: Nadia Léger was born Nadia Khodasevich in Russia. Her first husband was Polish artist Stanislaw Grabowski. She married Fernand Léger in 1952.

Condition: Sheet laid down on paperboard. Several tears and surface splits at the sheet edges. A few tiny holes with attendant color loss. The surface with scattered abrasions, creases and scuffs.

Provenance: Collection of Sir John Richardson. This piece is depicted in the publication: John Richardson At Home (Rizzoli, 2019). The painting is shown hanging amongst Picassos in Richardson’s E. 72nd St. NYC residence ca. 1970s.
