Enzo Russo (b.1936). Still Life by the Sea, ca. 1960. Oil on linen canvas, 20 x 24 inches. Framed measurement: 27 x 31 inches. Signed lower right. Excellent condition with one dark scratch in paint surface running diagonally along wind instrument. A few spots of touched-up paint loss are evident in vintage frame. No damage or conservation.

Biography:

Russo and his twin brother Germano both received a traditional artistic education at the School of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy. Enzo studied under three celebrated artist teachers who became major influences to his career: Ottone Rosai, Giovanni Colacicchi and Giorgio De Chirico, one of the fathers of Italian Surrealism. De Chirico became a lifelong friend of Russo. Enzo Russo came to the United States and with a sponsorship from the Whitney Museum of American art, the Guggenheim and the Smithsonian Institution, he received American citizenship. Russo has taught in Florence, New York City, Colorado, Ohio and Connecticut, Ohio and Connecticut.
